“Journey Called Life”
The irony of a human life is that at his birth, he is the one who cries and the people around him smile. But at his death, he seems to be smiling while the people around him cry.
This factual statement reveals a lot of unsaid and unheard facts of this journey called life.
What is this journey and where does it begin? Where does this journey end? Who all would travel with us? What after the end of the journey? These are the question which haunts many of our minds when we think of life as a journey.
In a strive to attain name, fame, money, power, status and so on many people do everything they can and struggle so hard to achieve their dreams. Some live their life wanting to make a mark in history for all they do; few of them do make it through as well. But how many of us ever realize the meaning of our true existence.
Is it just to earn the maximum money one can, live a contented life, make as many good relationships or as most of my friends would say: to be remembered for all that you did after your death.
We all rummage around for a different reason to live our life. Planning our every single minute, we tend to forget that the next moment would not be ours anymore. The matter of fact is that even this minute as we are reading this article does not belong to us. People often overlook at this fact. In their constant search for happiness around them they find means to satisfy them. Some find it in people, some at work, and others with their adventures and parties. And the rest have their own way of achieving happiness. Very few of them realize the secret to true happiness which never seizes. This happiness is not around but within every individual. The day everyone realized this fact, the journey of life would be more enjoyable.
We often hear that we live in a competitive world, we have competition everywhere. The big question here is that who is the organizer of this competition? No one but ourselves. We always want to compare: mostly we are comparing the people around us and the rest of the time we compare ourselves with others. This comparison lasts for lifetime. When we go to school, college, workplace etc. we forget to look at the positives, but compare the negatives. How often this kind of comparison does give us happiness.
Is this the journey we wish to take? A journey where we are competing with someone who just can’t replace us. Our competition should be with ourself to defeat our ego and the ill feelings we have against others. The competition to achieve what we desire, something we have dreamt of and did not achieve in our past. Our actions should be what we desire and never be governed by the others around us. It should be controlled by our mind and heart. This competition with ourself would always lead us to victory with whatever we achieve. Our true victory would be to accept ourself the way we are.
When we have any appointment or a meeting it would mean a lot of planning and the preparations might be for few days or so. But what about our death? Do we ever prepare for it or do we assume that we will live for the years to come. Certainty of the moment of death is uncertain and maybe that’s the reason we find ourselves in this conflict on how and when to attain the worldly pleasures and happiness.
The reason of our existence is not to achieve anything in this world but to prepare ourself for a life which no one is aware of. A life we would enter after we shut our eyes to the people around us. This reveals the reason we shut our eyes after our death: it is then we truly begin to introspect within ourself and learn to be at peace with no one but ourself.
So ultimately we could say that in this journey called life our final destination is death. Instead of cursing this journey let’s take time and be ourself. Let’s live in a world without having expectation from others. Live every moment as if it is the final one you have. The first thing that comes to our mind when we think about the final moment of our life is about others who are a part of our life today. We always think about others so much that we forget ourself. Even the individual whom we title to be a selfish person will think of someone or something when it comes to the thought of his death rather than himself. This is the reason we need to understand the meaning of this journey called life.
Finally remember, there are only 2 necessitate ways to live a happy life. One is to do what you like with your whole heart and the other is to evaluate what you did rather than what others would do or did.
